Inspirational Woman in STEMM celebrates a woman making her mark in science, technology, engineering, maths or medicine, and inspiring others to follow. She may be a researcher, engineer, clinician, technologist or educator, and her work and her example are helping to change who succeeds in STEMM. Judges look at both the quality of her work and the encouragement she gives to others, particularly girls and women.
Eligibility
- Open to women-identifying individuals working in science, technology, engineering, maths or medicine
- Industry, academia, healthcare, public sector and start-ups are all eligible
- Students and early-career professionals with notable achievements may enter
Judging criteria
- Excellence: the quality and significance of her STEMM work
- Inspiration: outreach, mentoring or advocacy that encourages others into STEMM
- Innovation: new ideas, methods or discoveries she has contributed
- Impact: benefits to patients, users, industry or society
Qualitative criteria
- Curiosity and rigour
- Passion for her field
- Commitment to diversity in STEMM
- Clear communicator of complex ideas
Metrics
- Research, patents, publications or products delivered
- Projects led and their outcomes
- Outreach activities and people reached
- Grants, funding or recognition received
Additional criteria
- Achievements should fall mainly within the last three years
